The New Chapter We’re Living

Since our trip to Custer, South Dakota, our world has been full of things to do, plan and act on. We have been in the thick of unpacking and settling into our new home as well as planning on the things we would like to do to the new place. We have also been building the exercise routine. And not to be forgotten, fit in the treatments related to leukemia. It’s the new chapter we’re living.

Our New Home

We bought our forever house last Fall, and finally have all the boxes unpacked. We’re still finding homes for our knick knacks here and there, but we all know, that’s ongoing. Our joke is that we just moved out of the dorm, as it would appear to our neighbors. We need to make some rather large purchases because everything we had before fit in prior smaller spaces. Also, we are excited to have a blank canvas for landscaping. So, we look forward to building our little oasis.

A New Chapter of Health and Wellness

While working on the home, we also have been working on our health. With Tracy’s cancer treatment and Amber just getting older, we needed to bring strength training more into the picture. After keeping a mostly solid schedule since February, there have been more arm flexes along with pounds and inches (slowly) melting away. We both have our different approaches to working out, but we’re there to push each other further.

Since January, we had learned that Tracy’s cancer treatment did do some damage. He was hospitalized for about a week due to liver damage from the chemotherapy. After many tests, they decided to halt (hopefully permanently) the methotrexate and 6-MP. Those are very hard on the liver and doing the most damage. So while we continue on a lighter load of maintenance chemotherapy, we also need to pamper the liver. Luckily, he’s responding well to less medications and that his liver will recover. Out of an abundance of caution, we are also maintaining a liver-friendly diet.

Even though we had some issues come along with treatment, we are so happy to focus on the positive things in this new chapter we’re living.
